What is Notepad
What is Notepad ? Notepad is a simple text editor software which you can find in any version of Windows. In this, you can only write text, no graphics are used in it. And neither can you color your written text in it. Apart from this, it is also used in making HTML web pages in which coding is written. In this, you can give any extension to your file according to your wish. Its by default extension is .txt.
So today we are going to give information about this. First, let us give an introduction about it, what is called which part. As you can see in the picture below, it is written on it what is called what, but still we will tell you from the very beginning.
1. Title Bar
The title bar shows the name with which you have saved your notepad file, that is why it is called title bar. When you have not saved it with any name, then “Untitled” Notepad is written.
2. Menu Bar:
It contains all your menus in which you can select the option and do tasks like save, open, copy, paste, etc. in your notepad.
3. Cursor:
This is your cursor which keeps blinking. The text is typed from where the cursor is located.
4. Minimize:
It is used to minimize your notepad i.e. to keep it in the taskbar.
5. Maximize:
It is used to make the notepad full screen.
Note: Maximize and Restore Down are the names of the same button. When it is maximized, the name of Restore Down is visible and when it is restored, the name of Maximize is visible.
6. Restore Down:
It is used to make it a little smaller than fullscreen.
7. Close:
With its help, you can close the notepad.
About the menu
Now we will tell you about the options given in all the menus one by one. The menus are as follows
1. File
2. Edit
3. Format
4. View
5. Help
Description of File Menu
Inside the File Menu, you will find 7 options whose functions are as follows-
1. New Ctrl+N
With its help, you can take a new (blank) page in Notepad.
2. Open Ctrl+O
With its help, a previously created file is opened.
3. Save Ctrl+S
With the help of save, you can save your created file in the hard disk. On saving for the first time, a dialog box will open to give you the name and extension of your file, in which you can name the file as per your wish. But once you save once and then click on this option again, you will not be asked for the name again.
4. Save As
is used to save the saved file in some other name and extension. Every time you click this option, a dialog box will open to write the name.
5. Page Setup
With its help, you can set the page of your Notepad like page size, orientation, header, footer etc.
6. Print Ctrl+P
With the help of this option, you can print your created notepad file and make a hard copy.
7. Exit
With its help, notepad is closed.
Description of Edit Menu
Inside the Edit menu, you will find 11 options whose functions are as follows-
1. Undo Ctrl+Z
is used to take any task one step back. Keep in mind that you cannot take a step forward in this because there is no option of Redo in it.
2. Cut Ctrl+X
With its help, the selected text is removed from the page and kept in the clipboard. Which can be pasted anywhere as per your wish through paste.
3. Copy Ctrl+C
With its help, the selected text is copied and kept in the clipboard. Which can be pasted anywhere as per your wish through paste.
4. Paste Ctrl+V
is used to paste the cut or copied text.
5. Delete Del
is used to delete the selected text. By the way, you might know that the delete button always deletes the text from the right side when you are in the middle of a text and the backspace always deletes from the left side.
6. Find Ctrl+F
Using this, you can search any word or character written in your notepad.
7. Find Next F3
is used to find a similar word or character of any searched character or word.
8. Replace Ctrl+H
Using this, you can search any of your words and use it to write something else in place of that word. Words written at one or more places can be changed at one time.
9. Go To Ctrl+G:
This is used to go to the line number written. This option works only when there is no word wrap.
10. Select All Ctrl+A:
This is used to select all the words written in Notepad at once.
11. Time/Date F5:
This is used to insert the current date and time in Notepad. The time and date will appear at the place where your cursor will keep blinking.
Description of Format Menu
There are only 2 options in the Format menu whose functions are as follows-
1. Word Wrap
With the help of this option, you can use it to bring the text to the second line according to the width of your notepad. If you do not tick it, then your text will be typed in only one line.
2. Font
Through this, you can change your writing style like bold, italic, underline, you can also change the font size and font style.
Description of View Menu
There is only one option in the View menu whose function is to show and hide the status bar. This option will work when Word Bar is not used.
Description of Help Menu
Inside this you will get two options, the first is Help, with the help of which you can read the help of Notepad. And the second option is About, with the help of which you can see the version of Notepad, copyright year, and along with this you can see the service pack and user name.
