What is wordpad, Word Pad is a text editor that helps you create documents with more options than Notepad but fewer features than MS Word.
Word Pad is included in every version of Windows. Many types of formatting can be done in a Word Pad document. The Word Pad window looks something like this. The Word Pad window you are seeing above appears in the ‘Windows 7’
Operating System, so it is possible that when you open Word Pad in your computer, you may find the Word Pad window to be different. This does not make much difference, yes there may be a difference in graphics and some features.

Now the Word Pad window is in front of you. You must have noticed that this window is divided into many parts. Let us know these different parts of the Word Pad window in sequence.
1. Word Pad Button
Word Pad Button is a major part of Word Pad. This button is in the Menu/Tab Bar. This button has many options for the file created in Word Pad. In this, you are given commands to save, open, print the Word Pad document. Work is done on Word Pad documents through these commands.
2. Quick Access Toolbar
Quick Access Toolbar is a special part of Word Pad. This toolbar is in the Title bar. We use it as a shortcut. Most of the used
commands are added to this toolbar and they are added to it. With the help of Quick Access Toolbar, work in Word Pad can be done with a little speed.
3. Title Bar
Title bar is the topmost part of the Word Pad window. The name of the file created in Word Pad is shown on this bar. Until the file is saved, the file name is not shown and “Document” is written there. As soon as we save the file with any name, then the file name is shown in place of “Document”. There are three buttons in the right corner of the Title Bar. The first button among these three buttons is “Minimize”, on clicking which the icon of the open program appears in the Task Bar. This means that this program has not been closed yet. Work is still being done on it. The second button is “Maximize or Restore down”. This button works to increase or decrease the width of the window. And the third button is “Close Button”. Which works to close the program.
4. Ribbon
Ribbon is another part of WordPad window. It is below the Title Bar. The red part in the WordPad window shown in this lesson is the Ribbon. In this part, the options of WordPad Tabs (which are in the menu bar) are shown.
5. Ruler bar
Ruler Bar is just above the Text Area in WordPad window. This tells us the Page Margin. Whatever Page Margin is done before or after creating a WordPad Document, to show that much margin, rulers are placed on both sides i.e. right and left in the Ruler Bar. Then the text that is written does not go out of them.
6. Status bar
Status bar is just below the Text Area in WordPad window. This bar has a tool called “Zoom Level”, with the help of which the page can be zoomed in and zoomed out. With the help of Zoom in, you can enlarge the WordPad Window. And with the help of Zoom out, the WordPad window can be made smaller again.
7. Text Area
Text Area is the most important part of Word Pad. And it is the largest and central part of the Word Pad window. Document text is written in this area.
Description of WordPad Button
1. New
is used to open a new page.
2. Open
is used to open an existing MS Paint file.
3. Save It is used to save the currently opened paint file in the hard disk.
4. Save As
Its function is also to save the file but with its help you can change the format and save it in some other path. 5. Print It is used to print the currently opened paint file.
5. Print
It is used to print the currently opened Paint file.
6. Page Setup
It is used to set the page in Wordpad such as it is used to set the page size, margin and orientation. 7. Send in E-mail It is used to mail the current paint file to someone with the help of Outlook.
8. About WordPad
It is used to know about Wordpad. In this you will get to see the version of your word and the name of the operating system. Along with this, you can also see the name of the user who is using it.
9. Exit
is used to close the open WordPad.
Description of Home Menu
All the options in the home menu are in the ribbon. There are different blocks in it like clipboard, font, paragraph, insert and editing. There are more than one option in this block.
1 Clipboard Under this option, cut copy paste and format painter are present. They have different functions which can be read in detail below.
Cut:
Through this, any text, picture or shape can be cut and kept in the clipboard, which can be pasted and inserted in MS Word. The cut shape, picture or text should remain selected and on cutting it moves away from there and goes to the clipboard.
Copy:
Before copying any text, shape or picture, it should remain selected, which goes to the clipboard on copying and it remains present on the page and also comes to your clipboard, which is brought to the page during pasting.
Paste:
Any text, picture or shape cut or copied above is used to paste. Paste Special is also present inside Paste, which is used to paste any object, text or shape copied from any other software. Paste As Hyperlink: It is used to paste like a hyperlink.
2. Under Font Group,
there is an option to change fonts, font styles like bold, italic, underline, increase or decrease font size, change font color. You can read about it in detail below.
Font Family
It is used to change the style of the selected text or paragraph.
Font Size
It is used to increase or decrease the size of the text. If you want to increase or decrease the size of a single paragraph or word, first select it and then change the font size.
Bold Ctrl+B
is used to make the selected text bold.
Italic Ctrl+I
is used to make the selected text slanted.
Underline Ctrl+U
is used to underline the selected text.
Strikethrough
is used to put a cut mark in the middle of the selected text.
Subscript
Mostly used in science formulas is called sub script.
Superscript
The one used in math in the form of a square is called super script.
Text Highlight Color
It is used to highlight the selected text or unselected text can be highlighted after selecting the highlight color while selecting the text.
Font Color
It is used to color the selected text or paragraph in any color.
Note Select the text before applying any style or effect.
3 Paragraph Group
There is an option of indent and spacing in which you can do settings related to paragraph. Such as alignment, spacing, theme color etc. which you can read in detail below.
Decrease Indent / Increase Indent:
With its help, paragraph is used to increase and decrease like a tab, which increases by pressing the normal tab button.
Start a List:
Used to add bullets and numbering.
Line Spacing:
Used to decrease and increase the spacing of the selected paragraph.
Show/Hide:
Used to display space and enter.
Left Ctrl+L:
Used to move paragraph to the left.
Center Ctrl+E:
Used to move paragraph to the middle.
Right Ctrl+R:
Used to move paragraph to the right.
Justify Ctrl+J:
Used to make paragraph equal from both sides according to left and right margins.
4 . Description of View Menu
With its help, you can insert pictures, paint drawings, date-time and files of any other software in your WordPad, which you can read in detail below.
Insert Picture-
Through this you can insert any image as per your choice in Wordpad.
Insert Paint Drawing Ctrl+D-
Through this you can make a drawing in Paint and insert it in Wordpad. As soon as you click on this option, your Paint will open, then after drawing something, directly close Paint and your drawing will appear in Wordpad.
Insert Date and Time-
Through this you can insert the current date and time of your computer. It will get inserted wherever your cursor blinks.
Insert Object-
Through this you can create any file from any other software and insert it, like after drawing and closing it in Paint, it appears in Wordpad, similarly, by creating a file from any other software and using it for inserting it, you can use it.
5 Editing:
Within this group you have been given three options whose function is to search, change and select, you can read in detail below.
Find Ctrl+F:
It is used to search for any text or paragraph.
Replace Ctrl+H:
It is used to replace the text in another word after searching.
Select All Ctrl+A:
It is used to select all the text, pictures, drawings etc. at once in WordPad.
Description of View Menu
Zoom:
There are 3 options given in it whose functions are as follows-
Zoom in:
Through this, you can view your WordPad page by zooming it, i.e., making it larger.
Zoom out:
Through this, you can view your WordPad page by zooming it, i.e., making it smaller.
100%:
With its help, you can view your WordPad at 100%. Whether it is zoom in or zoom out, it will become 100% as soon as you click on it.
2 Show or Hide
Through this you can hide the ruler and status bar. If there is a tick on it then it is active, if it is not ticked then it is hidden.
3 Settings
There is an option inside it whose functions are as follows-
Word Wrap:
Word wrap works by sending the written paragraph to the next line. As soon as your first line is filled, it will move it down. There are three options in this also.
No Wrap:
This will not move the line of text down, after filling it will automatically move towards the right.
Wrap to Window:
This will fill completely according to your screen, i.e. it will cover your screen, after that whatever text you write, the line will not change until it reaches the last.
Wrap to Margin:
This changes the line according to your margin, as soon as your text goes close to the margin, the line will automatically move down.
Measurement units:
Through this you can set in which form the scale should be displayed in the ruler, like whether it should be displayed in inches or centimeters, you can set it as per your requirement.
